GridFast.net DDoS Attack
At 19:00 GMT a forth update has been received by customers of CloudAccess.net stating –
“UPDATE:
The tier 1 fiber company is currently in a live conference call with security engineers from Cisco, trying to identify and determine a method to stop the Denial of Service Attack. The attack goes all the way up to the third set of routers. They have never seen this level of attack before, nor could any redundancy have prevented the disruption of service we are experiencing.
We will continue to keep you updated. Thank you for your patience and again we apologize for the inconvenience.

Shortly after 19:30 GMT a fifth email has been received by service users from CloudAccess.net –
“UPDATE 5:
The fiber company has isolated the attack down to a single area on the network and is working on a solution to handle it. We may be able to bring other areas of the network separate from the attack back online. We are waiting on a callback from the fiber company to determine if we can do this.
The fiber company has also determined that the attack is coming from thousands of locations. They are working on a plan to block the attack.
It is important to note that your data is safe. This attack was not directed at data. Your email should also be working.

A sixth update has been issued by CloudAccess.net just after 22:15 on May 4th 2011. It would appear, finally, CloudAccess.net and their ISP GridFast.net have bene able to get things under control. We’re glad to see them back online. We will keep you posted with further updates as we have them
“UPDATE 6:
We are happy to report that services have been stabilized, though we are still under attack. The fiber company was able to carve out enough of the trouble to allow us to bring service back online.
At this point we are still working on stopping the ongoing attack.
This was a distributed denial of service attack on a specific IP address where the attackers sent packets with dirty data that caused problems all the way to the core routers.
We still have more work to do. We will send a detailed explanation once the attack has been stopped and we can fully articulate everything that has occurred today.
Thank you for your continuing patience and understanding. We will be in touch soon.

Credit to CloudAccess.net for keeping it’s customers and potential customers so up to date. We hope they and their ISP get back on their feet soon. May the 4th be with them.
Bootnote:
It would appear there has either been too much force or too little depending upon how you look at it for CloudAccess.net today!
On the up side, it would appear CloudAccess.net have DDoS events covered in their SLA. Only thing is, that’s currently unavailable also.
